Conﬁguring the Fast Ethernet Interfaces*

FE half-duplex operation is the default. To change to full-duplex operation, use the following series

of commands:

Router# configure terminal

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Router(config)#

Router(config)# interface fastethernet 3/0/0

Router(config-if)# full-duplex

Ctrl-z

Note Each 100BASE-TX or 100BASE-FX interface on an FEIP can be conﬁgured at 100 Mbps,

half duplex or full duplex, for a maximum aggregate bandwidth of 200 Mbps.

Caution To prevent oversubscribing the FEIP, we recommend that you do not operate both FE interfaces on

an FEIP in full-duplex mode.

Using the show interfaces fastethernet command, you can see that the 3/0/0 interface is now

conﬁgured for full-duplex operation:

Router# sh int fa 3/0/0

FastEthernet 3/0/0 is administratively up, line protocol is up

To return the interface to half-duplex operation, use the no full-duplex conﬁguration command as

follows:

Router# config t

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Router(config)# int fa 3/0/0

Router(config-if)# no full-duplex

Ctrl-z

Router#

Using the show interfaces fastethernet command, you can see that the 3/0/0 interface is now

conﬁgured for half-duplex operation:
