Getting Started: Router Basics
________________________________________________
1. Objective
This lab will familiarize you with the different Cisco routers, switches, and
other networking equipment. You will learn basic Cisco Internetworking
Operating System (IOS®) software commands needed to interact with Cisco
routers. You will begin to configure basic settings on Cisco router which
include IOS interface configurations of routers and IP addressing, and
testing connectivity.
This lab consists of three parts. Part I is an overview of the lab equipment
and the connection topology. A brief introduction to router which is the
main device used to carry out this lab, is also provided. Part II presents a
tutorial to the basic Cisco IOS® software commands. In this part you will
learn how to configure routers for relevant networks. Part III, extends part II
to the implementation and testing a Frame Relay network.
After completing this you should be able to:
Find information about router configurations, memory size,
interface status and IP addresses.
Execute the user-levels and command modes on a Cisco router.
Configure and modify the Cisco 3640 router interfaces.
Use the Cisco Discovery Protocol to gather basic information
about the topology of a network.
